Why did you create ART FRONT?
– I felt a calling.
Calling? What exactly did you feel?
— That it was time to act. Not to wait and not to put it off. I realized that I had to do this – and not because it was easy or profitable, but because it was right. Because otherwise it simply does not give me peace.
Is it that simple?
– Yes, sometimes everything is simple. And also – I am that kind of person.
What else can you say about the movement?
– I see ART FRONT as a tree: I planted the seeds, watered them and let them grow. But the tree has strength only when many bring their “world”, their resources, their energy. And then it becomes a forest.
I will add that there are many projects, enough for everyone, now this is at the stage of an idea that I am launching into the universe. Further will depend on people who join. No one can bring to life so many projects and initiatives on their own. Only together. I believe that we can. Even if not as quickly as we would like. But no one will do it for us. We need to get up and get down to business. Everyone can contribute what they can – one will take part in some action, another will become an ally for many years, or maybe forever.
How do you see this movement in a few years?
— I see it standing on its own feet — with cells all over the country, with dozens of completed projects, with hundreds of people who have found themselves in this. I see artistic spaces, cultural events, parks, museums, educational initiatives. I see a strong community. And most importantly, I see a country that is changing not only formally, but internally.
Sounds large-scale.
— And why not? Someone has to start big things. We are used to waiting for “someone” to come and do it. But the truth is, that someone is ourselves.
And that doesn’t put pressure on you?
— On the contrary. It gives you wings. You feel like you’re doing what you should. And then everything is done with ease — even when it’s hard.
In short, what is the meaning of ART FRONT?
— In action. In creativity. In people. The desire not just to see the world better, but to take steps that change it.
You have a very wide range of projects. Aren’t you afraid of dividing your attention? Perhaps it would be better to focus on one project, then another, and so on.
— If I were doing everything myself, it would certainly make sense. But the main idea is to attract as many people as possible, organizers, project managers, and they will then form their own teams on the ground, and then the movement can develop in many directions simultaneously.
